The Setup
Humans in 1889: "Let's define mass using this lump of metal in Paris, and length using this stick we made."
[The lump of metal and the stick have no relationship to each other whatsoever]
The Punchline
Humans in 1915: "AMAZING! When we try to relate mass and geometry to force units in our equations, we need this mysterious constant G! It must reveal something profound about the fabric of spacetime!"
The Reality Check
G is just the correction factor for our arbitrary choices:
G = l_P³/(t_P² × m_P) = "how to convert your random lump-of-metal units
into geometry units that actually make sense"
Or more specifically, the mass-to-geometry conversion:
l_P/m_P = "the conversion factor for our length scale to make
it a natural proportion per the conversion factor for out
mass unit scale to correct it to a natural mass scale"
This appears throughout gravitational physics because every time we want to convert "kilograms of stuff and lengths of stuff in si" into "force units in si" we need to fix the arbitrary scaling mismatch between our metal lump and our measuring stick and units of force.
The Pattern Everywhere
- Speed of light (c): "My stick and my clock tick at unrelated rates! I need a conversion factor!"
- Planck constant (h): "My energy units (derived from my metal lump and stick) don't match my frequency units (from my clock)! I need a conversion factor!"
- Boltzmann constant (k_B): "My temperature scale (based on water freezing/boiling) doesn't match my energy scale! I need a conversion factor!"
The Cosmic Joke
We spent centuries being amazed that the universe required these "fundamental constants" to make our equations work.
The universe: "I don't require anything. You picked bad units. I'm just sitting here being unified while you scramble to patch your measurement system with conversion factors."
The Simple Truth
The universe operates on a single chain of complete unity:
T̃ = f̃ = m̃ = Ẽ = p̃ = F̃ = 1/l̃
This isn't about pairs of things being equal. This is one thing expressed seven different ways. Temperature, frequency, mass, energy, momentum, force, inverse length - these are all just different names for the same underlying reality in the universe's natural coordinate system. These are all the same processes in time seen as 7 different human conceptual axis.
The Translation Problem
When we try to express this unity in our weird SI units, we have to add scaling corrections:
T/T_P = f×t_P = m/m_P = E/E_P = p/p_P = F/F_P = l_P/l
Each "constant" is just the specific correction factor needed to translate one part of this chain into our arbitrary human language.
Take "mass is frequency" - the simple truth m̃ = f̃ becomes:
- Start with: m/m_P = f×t_P
- Solve for SI mass: m = f × (m_P × t_P)
- But m_P × t_P = h/c²
- So our simple identity becomes: m = f(h/c²)
- Rearranged: mc² = hf
The "constants" aren't properties of physics. They're the scars left by our rulers on the unity equation.
"The most profound mysteries of modern physics turn out to be unit conversion errors."
